The Snowman
The Snowman in to Kill a Mockingbird is half mud in the scene as it states in the book. This snowman represents that white supremacy rules the town in Maycomb and it shows a lot of racism throughout the town. Since the snowman is white because of the snow and the mud on it could represent the chart of the white supremacy throughout the town of Maycomb. In the town all of the white people vote against the black people either way except for the people that don't believe in racism. On page 89 it states "Jem scooped up an armful of dirt, patted it into the mound". This quote summarizes up the snowman its means since jem is putting the dirt onto the snowman and it started to look like a chart of the black people and the white people. Using this evidence from this section it will represent the white supremacy throughout the town of Maycomb, so it will show how they will always go against the black people.
Closed Doors
Closed Doors represent racism because people have their doors shut because they are racist and they don't want black people near their home and they don't want anything to do with them. Its represents like how it shows that town of Maycomb`s personality how it shows how the people in the town react to each other and how they treat others. It shows how the town really treats each race depending on which on they are on how you're treated. This affects the book severely showing each characters personality how they think of racism using the door to represent it. On page 61 it states ¨What happens in houses behind closed doors, what secrets¨. This quote helps prove the symbolism of the closed doors because it shows its secrets and Boo Radley likes to get away from everything and it shows how he could be racist. This evidence summarizes that Closed Doors represents that people don't want to do with anything because they are racist.
Mockingbird
The Mockingbird represents Tom Robinson in the book to kill a mockingbird. Tom represents the mockingbird because in the book it gives a bunch of key clues that he really is the mockingbird. A key clue that would show that he was the mockingbird due to this quote. On page 323 it states "Mr Underwood simply figured out it's a sin to kill cripples, be they sitting, standing, or escaping". This quote explains my statement because at the time Tom only had one arm because he hurt his arm in the cotton gin because he was working in the cotton fields at that time. In the book title it states it as the book title its a sin To Kill a Mockingbird so this could represent my statement. On page 323 it states "He likened Tom's death to the senseless slaughter of songbirds by hunters and children". This quote explains my point to where this has to be true how Tom is the mockingbird because songbirds are mockingbirds because all they want to do is sing. Meaning the mockingbird represents Tom Robinson as it because it's a sin to kill a mockingbird. This evidence shows that what Mr Underwood said about the sins and he was referencing it to Tom Robinson. This shows how Tom Robinson is the mockingbird, this further shows why the title of the book is To Kill a Mockingbird.
The garden
Mrs Maudie's garden represents a lot of things throughout this book representing the emotions and the actions of this town. Ms Maudie's nut grass represents white supremacy so the nut grass is bad so she has a poison that she sprays that kills it instantly. The rest of her garden represents the town of Maycomb so that is way she does not want it to spread across the town. On page 56 it states "Why, one sprig of nut grass can ruin a whole yard. Look here. When it comes fall it dries up and the wind spreads it all over Maycomb County!". This statement shows how Mrs. Maudie doesn't want the nut grass to spread near her garden because if she does it will spread all over Maycomb County. The symbolism of this quote represents my answer how the nut grass shows white supremacy and she doesn't want to spread all over Maycomb, so Mrs Maudie's garden represents the town of Maycomb with the nut grass represents racism and white supremacy how they don't want it to spread all across town.
The White Camelia symbolizes in the book white supremacy and racism that Mrs. Dubose gave it to Jem. The White Camelia represents the white supremacy due to the fact the Mrs. Dubose doesn't really acknowledge the black people in the book. The flower shows the white supremacy in the town of Maycomb how the whites are over the blacks. Jem is affected by the white camellia by trying to figure it out and what it means to understand the flower. The flower shows that racism and prejudice cannot be erased by violence, if the town just kept acting like that to the black people they will keep protesting. Mrs Dubose's white camellias that she is very passionate about it since it represents the racism and prejudice in the town it symbolizes the towns personality.
